Overview
South Dakota Mines has computers in the possession of users, within classrooms and labs, as well the many various offices and work environments. Many of these devices are used for sensitive personal, financial, network, and institutional data; cutting edge research; and for operating highly technical and precise instruments. As such, administration of these devices must be moderated to ensure privacy, security, and functionality.
Benefits
- Limiting administrative control over devices ensures that only users responsible for the device are able to access private data or make drastic changes to the system.
- Only computer administrators may install or remove software packages.

Available To
South Dakota Mines students, staff and faculty for academic and business purposes only.
Cost
Services are provided at no cost to current students, staff and faculty.
Policies
- Approval for granting admin permissions must be provided by the faculty or staff that is the registered owner of the computer or lab.
- If the previous owner of the device is no longer at South Dakota Mines, the department may request that the device be reassigned, and permissions granted.
- The owner or department of a device can also request that previously granted permissions be revoked as necessary.
