Activate NetBird VPN for Students

Introduction

These instructions are for setting up the Palo Alto Global Protect Virtual Private Network (VPN) client on South Dakota Mines student personal and campus computers. Installing and connecting the VPN will enable students to access campus resources and software licensing. These instructions are intended for South Dakota Mines use only.

Instructions

1. Open the NetBird application from your taskbar tray near the clock.  
   If the application is not installed you can find instructions on the install process at How to Install NetBird VPN
   
   
    
2. In the Set up NetBird window, choose "Self-Hosted" and enter "netbird.sdsmt.edu" in the URL field and click "Continue"
   
   
    
3. The NetBird applicaion will open. Toggle the icon in the middle of the application to connect to the vpn.
   
   
    
4. You will be redirected to a web browser to validate your account.  
   
   
    
5. Choose "Continue with Microsoft Entra" in the browser windows and enter your @mines.sdsmt.edu email address and password to connect to the VPN.
