How to create a grade category

Introduction

This article provides faculty with steps to create a grade category. Grade Categories allow you to group like assignments in your grade book. Categories also allow you to collapse full sections of grades in your grade book reducing the amount of scrolling to find new grade items.

Environment

An internet-connected device with a web browser (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari).

Instructions

  1. From the navigation bar, select Assessments > Grades

     
  2. Select the Manage Grades Tab

     
  3. Select New > Category from the menu

     
  4. Give the Category a name. You can also provide a Short Name if you wish.

     
  5. Choose your preferred settings in the Grading area. Click the question marks to read a further explanation of each item.

     
  6. Choose your preferred Display Options

     
  7. Save and close
     
  8. Once the category is created, add items
