How to post a news item or announcement

Introduction

This article provides faculty with steps to post a news item or announcement on D2L. This feature on D2L allows you to communicate course updates, share new information, and post reminders for learners by creating announcements.

Environment

An internet-connected device with a web browser (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari).

Instructions

  1. Log into D2L and navigate to your course.
     
  2. Locate the “News” widget on the right side.
     
  3. Click the down arrow, then select New News Item.

     
  4. Enter a “Headline”, and then write the “Content” of your news item.
    • A good first news item will welcome students to the course and direct them on where to find information.
    • Example first news item: Welcome to the D2L course!

       
  5. If desired, you can add an end date when you create the news item. This action will keep the news feed current and uncluttered.

     
  6. If desired, you can attach a file.

     
  7. Once you are ready, click Publish.

     
  8. Once your news item is published, you can create additional ones by clicking New Item. You also have the option to Edit, Dismiss from widget, or Delete.
